Housing Voucher Program (Section 8)

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (commonly known as Section 8) is designed to provide rental assistance to low-income families so they can afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market.

Eligibility is based on a household’s annual income which may not exceed 50% of the median income for the area in which the family chooses to live.

There are several steps involved before receiving assistance with your rent. They are:

  • Wait List (wait time can be over 12 months)
  • Eligibility Appointment
  • Lease Briefing
  • Locating a suitable unit
  • Unit Inspection
  • Monthly payment to landlord (participants will be responsible for paying the difference between the total rent and their calculated housing assistance payment).
