Tax Preparation Program

TAX PREPARATION PROGRAM

Let HRDC’s IRS certified staff prepare your tax returns for FREE. That’s right – no cost to you!  Don’t be talked into “rapid refund loans”.  Keep YOUR hard-earned money in YOUR pocket!

HRDC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites open in late January into April to provide free tax preparation and e-filing for Federal and State income tax returns to households whose gross income is at or below 200% of poverty.

If you had earned income, you may be eligible for an EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC) and you may qualify for other tax credits, including the Child Tax Credit.   HRDC’s trained staff will ensure all households receive credits for which they are eligible while preparing their tax returns.

During the 2022 tax season (beginning in January, 2023), we will once again operate ALL of our tax sites on an in-person APPOINTMENT ONLY basis.  Masks will be optional for filers.  We will not be able to serve those without an appointment at our tax sites.  For those who do not feel comfortable with an in-person appointment, drop-off appointments will be available during regular office hours at HRDC’s main office on 125 Virginia Ave, Cumberland.  Please call for drop-off instructions.

CALL 301-783-1800 TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT OR FOR MORE INFORMATION.  We ask that you only leave one message if we are unable to answer your call.  Staff respond to messages in the order they are received within 24 hours (weekends excluded).

Please note that you will be asked for your household’s GROSS income amount when you call for an appointment.  If, at your appointment, it is found that your household income is over the income limits for your household size, we cannot do your tax returns.
